Frans Fontaine European Hornbeam

A dense deciduous tree with a narrow upright and columnar growth habit. The glossy green pointy leaves turn an outstanding gold in the fall. The smooth grey bark has a muscular look. It takes pruning well and can make a fantastic hedge. Unlike other forms, it preserves the attractive lateral boughs and retains its columnar habit throughout its life.
