Also known as vernal witch hazel, this native plant produces fragrant flowers in late winter to early spring adding interest to the winter garden. The petals resemble twisted ribbons of yellow orange to reddish purple along the bare stems. It is a tough durable plant but does best in acidic soil with consistent moisture. It has a golden yellow fall color.
